Women Aztecs Opens Season with Silver

 

The Pima Community College women’s golf team took second place in its season opener at the Mesa Invitational in Mesa.

The Aztecs’ two-day invitational total was 773 (391-382), but it wasn’t enough to hold off Chandler-Gilbert Community College, who won with a total of 755 (395-360).

Although the Aztecs didn’t take gold, they still had three golfers place in the Top 10.

Freshman Hallie Lawson (Campo Verde High School) was the top Pima finisher as she took eighth with the score of 190 (96-94).

Freshman Katelyn Hutchison (Cienega High School) took ninth with the score of 191 (94-97) and sophomore Elizabeth Satterfield (Ironwood Ridge High School) rounded off the 10th spot with a score of (101-94).

The team will be back in action in the Estella Mountain Community College Invitational on Feb. 11-12 at Wigman Golf Course in Litchfield Park.

 

Men’s golfers start season, just missing Top 3

 

The men’s golf team opened its season at the Mesa Invitational, which was held at the Dobson Ranch Golf Course in Mesa.

The team took fifth with its two-day total being 590 (284-306). South Mountain Community College took the top spot with a total of 529 (261-268).

Sophomore Diego Cueva-Schraidt (Sabino High School) was Pima’s top leading golfer, shooting a 2 under par 70 in the first round but finished tied for 17th with a total of 147 (70-77).

The team will be back in Pima County hosting the Pima Invitational at Omni Tucson National Golf Course on Feb. 18-19.
