Pima offers inspiration toward graduation

By JOE GIDDENS Pima Community College Communications Department will stir your spirits to graduate by hosting the inaugural “Day of Inspiration” April 3.  Staff that teach all of Pima’s writing courses, foreign language and English as a Second Language will be donning graduation caps and gowns to raise awareness of the importance of finishing your studies.  Additionally, pizza and popcorn will be served and games will be played at the Downtown Campus from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. “For me, A Day of Inspiration is really a day to kind of celebrate the idea that we are all here for the purpose of helping everyone to succeed and move forward through all the supports that we have at Pima Community College,” said Ken Chavez, Pima’s dean of communications.  Now is the time for students to start app...

LETTER FROM THE EDITOR- The Mystery of Shatner

By JOE GIDDENS William Shatner. One of Canada’s finest exports turns out to have as many careers as he has had wives. You’ve seen him fight men in rubber monster suits, helm the Enterprise and sell you on travel websites. Now it’s time to allow the man to grace your playlists as well.  Shatner released his first spoken word album, “The Transformed Man,” in 1968. Strip away the music of The Beatles and trade John Lennon’s singing for deadpan dramatic reading of the lyrics to “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds,” and you get what would be the prototype of Shatner’s album-making career. Shatner’s discography is an exercise in irony. Men’s Golfers shine at Pima Invitational

BY: ALEXANDER LOPEZ Title: Men’s Golfers shine at Pima Invitational   The Aztec Men’s golf Team closed out their home invitational Feb.19, at Omni National Golf Course, 6 strokes behind the top spot. The teams two-day total of 597 (299-298) was enough to secure second place but wasn’t enough to hold off South Mountain Community College who’s two-day total was 591 (303-288). The Aztecs didn’t go down without a fight. Leading after day one, by a slim margin of 4 shots, Pima fell to South Mountain, in the team competitions, who turned up the heat and put it away in day two. Freshman Matthew Fimbres (Cienega High School) placed second with a two-day total of 143 (71-72), missing first place in the individuals competition, by one shot to South Mountain’s Brandon Meyer.
