The Aztecs women’s golf team opens up their first tournament since spring break with a dominating second place finish.
Chandler-Gilbert Community College jumped out early and were able to maintain the lead throughout the two matches, but the Aztecs did have their hands full with Mesa Community College.
The women were able to sustain a second place from great day one shooting but Mesa wasn’t letting the Aztecs get away without a day two fight.
Pima Community College was able to edge out Mesa by 10 strokes to finish off day two 391 to 401 with a two day total of 773.
The Aztecs women’s continues their dominant play heading down the home stretch of the season.
In individuals play, Pima Community College had 3 golfer place in the top 10, but not without a little good ol fashion teammate competition.
Sophomore Elizabeth Satterfield (Ironwood Ridge High School) was Pimas top golfer shooting a 22 over par both days, 94, rounding off a two day total of 188 and locking in the number seven spot.
Right on her heels, and having a great day one was her fellow Aztec freshman Katelyn Hutchinson (Cienega High School), who shot a 92 in day one and a 98 in day two, securing eighth place with a two day total of 190.
Even though sophomore Nicki Gonzalez (Ironwood Ridge High School) placed ninth, she didn’t let her teammate walk away with easy places.
Gonzalez finish just one stroke behind Hutchinson and 3 strokes behind Satterfield with a two day total of 191 (96-95).
The Aztecs women’s golf team looks to make their return to action for the Chandler- Gilbert Community College Invitational at Los Colinas Golf Club in Queen Creek on Apr. 13-14.
