April 27 (H) Game 1: PCC 5, South Mountain CC 4 F/8
After being swept at South Mountain earlier this season, the Aztecs returned the favor by beating them in both games at West Campus.
Pima took an early lead after scoring 1 run in the first, but the Cougars did their damage in the fourth and fifth innings, scoring a combined 3 runs.
Sophomore Ariana Gomez hit a sacrifice fly to score freshman Turner-Vizcarra and tie the game at 3 in the bottom of the seventh.
In the eighth inning, South Mountain was able to score one run. Sophomore Maria VanezaCaldera hit a fielder’s choice to tie the game. Turner-Vizcarra hit the game-winning walk-off single with 2 outs to score Caldera.
Freshman Abril Nerey got the victory in relief, as she pitched the last five innings. Nerev gave up 2 earned runs on 6 hits.
Game 2: PCC 8, South Mountain CC 4
With Pima leading 5-4, Caldera launched a 3-run bomb over the center field fence.
Sophomores Gomez, Casper, Caldera and Marshall combined 8 for 15 in the game with 8 RBIs and 5 runs scored.
Freshman Bianca Castillo got her 10th victory of the season. The Cougars scored 4 runs in the first two innings, but she kept them scoreless for the final 5 and ⅔ innings. She struck out 6 and allowed 4 hits.
April 23 (H) Game 1: PCC 8, Phoenix College 10
Although they ended up getting swept at home, the Aztecs put up a great fight against the No. 4-ranked team in the nation.
Losing 6-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Pima’s bats came to life with two outs, scoring 6 runs to take the lead.
After an RBI single, a run scored on an error and a run scored on a fielders choice, Alese Casper cleared the bases with a 3-run double to give Pima the lead. Phoenix College then promptly scored 4 runs.
Castillo is now 9-10 on the season after taking the loss. She pitched seven innings, allowing 5 earned runs on 13 hits while also striking out five.
Game 2: PCC 5, Phoenix College 16 F/5
Phoenix College began the second game by scoring 7 runs in the first and 8 in the fourth. The Aztecs comeback fell short and the game ended after five innings due to the mercy rule.
Casper, Marshall and Caldera had back to back-to-back RBI hits in the fourth inning to help get the Aztecs on the board.
Marshall finished the game 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs.
Castillo also pitched the second game, earning her second loss of the day. She pitched ⅓ of an inning and allowed 7 earned runs on 3 hits, but also walked four batters.
April 20 (A) Game 1: PCC 10, Glendale CC 6
Pima scored most of their runs in the second and fourth innings, including 3 runs in the second on errors.
Caldera and Munoz each homered in the game.
Bianca Castillo has her record back up to .500 on the season after picking up the victory. She pitched a complete game allowing 1 earned run on 7 hits, while also striking out four.
Game 2: PCC 0, Glendale CC 7
After hammering the ball in the previous game for 14 hits, the Aztecs only managed to get 2 hits in the second game.
Casper was Pima’s only offense in the game as she went 2 for 3, with a bunt single and a two-out double.
Abdul Nerey took the loss after she pitched 2 ⅔ innings, allowing 3 earned runs on 8 hits.
April 16 (A) Game 1: PCC 6, Eastern Arizona College 7
The Aztecs had a chance to tie the game in the last inning, but left the runner stranded on second base, which has been a common theme for the season.
Giselle Munoz and Maria Vanezza Caldera were the first two RBI hits in the ball game for Pima, after they both hit a single. Kylee Leach tied the game after her single drove in Munoz and Turner-Vizcarra. Devynn Marshall hit an RBI double in the sixth inning to give Pima the lead, but it wasn’t to last.
Bianca Castillo was the losing pitcher after allowing 7 earned runs on 15 hits in six innings of work.
Game 2: PCC 6, Eastern Arizona College 8
The Aztecs held a lead after sophomore Alizea Durazo-Corday hit a 2-run RBI double in the first inning. The Gila Monsters swiftly struck back with 6 runs in the third inning.
Heading into the last inning, down five, Durazo-Corday stepped up to the plate with two runners on base. She promptly smashed the ball over the fence, cutting the lead to 2. However, that is the closest they would come.
Durazo-Corday was responsible for all but one of the Aztecs runs, after she went 2 for 4 with 5 RBIs.
Abril Nerey suffered her eighth loss on the season, after pitching 2⅔ innings. She allowed 6 earned runs on 8 hits.
