Two weeks notice: midterm election looms, here are your AZ debates

Pima Post

Election day (Nov. 8) is only two weeks from today; early ballots are in mailboxes; decisions, decisions, decisions … we’ve gathered the debates for you here. Interviews are procedurally given by the Citizens Clean Elections Commission to candidates whose opponents decline the invitation to debate.

The debate for the governor’s desk is noticeably absent next to the other debates from this election cycle on azcleanelections.gov. (Screen capture of azcleanelections.gov)

The Citizens Clean Elections Commission sponsors statewide and legislative debates. This Arizona election cycle has not lacked drama. Much of the drama was stirred up over the gubernatorial debate- or lack of a debate when Democratic candidate Katie Hobbs refused an invitation by the commission to debate her rival, Republican candidate Kari Lake … You know what, let’s start there.

AZ Governor

Republican Kari Lake has called Democrat Katie Hobbs a coward for refusing to share the debate stage with opponents, including during the Democratic primary. Hobbs has called Lake a conspiracy theorist.

Alas, there’s no footage to share due to no debate. Their controversial Q&A interviews are part of this story.
