Be sure to Shrek out this play

By ERIK MEDINA CYT Tucson will be bringing the Tony award-winning performance “Shrek the Musical” to the stage at Proscenium theater at Pima Community College Center for the Arts.  The show will run from Oct. 26 to Oct. 28.  Tickets cost $15 if purchased online at least one hour before curtain; $17 at the door; and $13 per person if bought as a group of at least 12. All ticketing information can be found on the CYT website (see FYI box).  CYT Tucson is a non-profit youth theater based in Southern Arizona. The theater is a two-time winner of the Arizona Daily Star’s Reader’s Choice Award for Best Youth Theater.  Since 2005, the volunteers at CYT Tucson have put on over 50 productions. Groups perform in concert at Pima West

By ERIK MEDINA The Chorale and College Singers will perform its first concert of the Fall semester at 3 p.m. Oct. 21.  The concert will be presented by Pima Community College Music and will be under the direction of Jonathan Ng and accompanied by Shuo Pan.  The program will feature the Chorale singing “Stars Tonight” by Judith Herrington; “Flying Free” by Don Besig; and “Medley from Les Misérables” arranged by Ed Lojeski.  After that, the a cappella choir College Singers will perform “Ubi caritas” by Ola Gjeilo; the motet “Ave Maria” by Josquin des Prez; and selections from “Zigeunerlieder” (Gypsy Songs) Op. 103 No. 6-9 by Johannes Brahms. The painter has been the curator of the Bernal Gallery for the last 11 years and the instructor of the Gallery Museum Studies class at Pima Community College. Over the course of 27 years, Andres has traveled throughout Mexico, and his love for the country inspires a lot of themes that arise in his exhibitions. “We might be separated by borders, but it doesn’t make any difference,” said Andres when discussing the concept of “Separated by Borders.” “These are incredible artists that are living just south of us and haven’t had the opportunity to show here in Tucson.” ...

By ERIK MEDINA   The Pima Community College Music Department will present a faculty recital with Michael Lich, a classical guitarist, banjo-player, arranger and composer. The performance will include pieces by Bach, Brouwer, Dyens, Lich and Piazzolla. Lich is also an instructor at PCC, where he teaches classroom and studio guitar. Along with performing solo classical guitar and chamber music concerts, Lich regularly performs on banjo with his jazz/bluegrass group Noctrane. Lich performs a wide variety of musical styles including classical, jazz and bluegrass. His performing career has taken him to such far-flung places as Skagway, Alaska; Rio de Janeiro; Seoul, South Korea; Frankfurt, Germany; and most recently Mexico.
