Pima Men’s soccer enters Nationals as No. 2

By ALEX JIMENEZ Pima Post Pima Community College Men’s Soccer team (15-2) has been invited as the No. 2 seed to the NJCAA DII Men’s Soccer National Championship, taking place Nov. 15 through Nov. 20. Pima lost the regional tournament to Phoenix College in penalty kicks to secure a bid to the national tournament. However, it received one of four at-large bids thanks to its strong performances this season and consistently being in the nation’s top 10. Dangerous Books series to debut Nov. 9

Pima will be hosting the first Dangerous Books event from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Nov. 9 in the West Campus Library classroom.  Dangerous Books is an event meant to highlight popular banned books, books removed from public or school libraries. COVID vaccinations available at Pima

By JOSHUA SHAVERPima Post Arizona Public Interest Research Group Education Fund has launched a campaign urging more students at Pima Community College to get vaccinated against COVID-19.  Just under 50 percent of people ages 18-24 are fully vaccinated nationally, the lowest among age groups over 18, according to the CDC. That’s concerning, given the rapid spread of the highly contagious Delta variant of the virus. “We encourage people to speak to their friends and families, and that’s a way to overcome vaccination anxiety,” said Sydney Kale, Southwest campus organizer with PIRG. PCC Men’s Soccer enters Regionals as top seed

By ALEX JIMENEZPima Post Pima Community College men’s soccer (14-1, 8-1 ACCAC) was handed its first loss Saturday, in the last game of the regular season by Arizona Western College (17-0, 9-0). After the loss, Pima fell from No. 1 to No. 2 in the country, according to the NJCAA DII Men’s Soccer Rankings.  Arizona Western held lots of possession and had a few goal-scoring chances in the first half, but Pima’s defense remained solid. Admission to the exhibit is free and displays work from two artists: Alanna Airitam and Wayne Martin Belger. Alanna Airitam is a San Diego-based portrait photographer. By ALEX JIMENEZPima Post Pima Community College men’s soccer team will play in a big conference game and the last regular season game of the year against Arizona Western at Aztec Soccer Field at 7 p.m. Saturday. Both teams are at the top of the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference with a record of 14-0, 8-0 ACCAC for No. 1 Pima College and 16-0, 8-0 ACCAC for No. 6 Arizona Western. A win for either team would secure the top spot in ACCAC. Puppy love: Pet a Pup event coming to Northwest library

Ruby, a mini Goldendoodle, and her handler, Jeannine, will be at the Northwest Campus Library. If you can’t make it on Oct. 19, there will be four more days you can pet a pup: 10 a.m. Oct. 25, 10 a.m. Nov. 2 and 16 and 3 p.m. Dec. 6. This is a good opportunity to come down and pet a dog. False alarming: Fire alarms rain on J Building

By ALEX JIMENEZPima Post Students and faculty in the J Building at Pima Community College’s West Campus have become used to hearing the ultra-loud fire alarm. At least eight fire alarms have pealed through the building since the first day of Fall classes.   According to Aubrey Conover, campus vice president, the primary reason for the rash of fire alarms has been the Tucson Fire Department testing pressure in the lines, which can trigger the alarms. On some days, the alarm only sounds off one time. On Sept. 28, however, the J Building experienced three fire alarms, much to people's consternation. “The fire detection/protection contractor was called to evaluate the situation,” said Ouatfa Chuffe-Moscoso, director of Environmental Health and Safety for PCC. “The cause o...
