Big companies offer students a break on prices

By EMILY GASTELUMPima Post (Nick Youngson/Alpha Stock Images) Being a college student can be pricey.  It’s up to them to budget their money and see what is necessary or not.  You would be surprised, however, with the amount of money college students can save from deals. Big corporations such as Apple, Spotify, Amazon and Microsoft Office 365, give discounts or even free material for students currently enrolled at a college or university.  Several Pima Community College students found the discounts beneficial. “My opinion on the student discount is quite positive,” said Luciana Velarde, a Music Performance major. “I might not have to worry a lot about spending money on campus or stress about books as much, but it is a great option to have regardless. Pima Men’s Basketball team dominates Glendale Community College

By GERARDO CASTROPima Post Pima Community College men’s basketball team (14-8) hosted Glendale Community College (13-9) Saturday in a game that wasn’t close at all besides the beginning stages of the game when the score was 2-3.  Glendale never had a lead in the game and Pima made sure to take advantage of that. The Aztecs came out strong out the gates against Glendale as the score was already 12-5 with 16:38 left in the first half of the game. One major factor that was noticeable throughout the game was the Aztecs' 3-point shooting as the team shot an impressive 58.1% from beyond the arc. As the game went on, the Aztecs were able to run away with this one by a multitude of scoring runs. Notable runs were carried out by sophomore Daniel Moody and freshman Griffin Eff...

If you are here, congratulations

By KEVIN HARTUNGPima Post I offer congratulations because you are part of a declining species, those now pursuing higher education. We are embarking on another semester at Pima Community College when the cry has been “back to normal.” But Pima, like most colleges and universities nationwide, has seen a decline in enrollment. The sharpest decline is evident since the pandemic, but the benefit is that the pandemic has focused a spotlight on what has been a steady decrease in enrollment over the last decade. “Overall, enrollment in undergraduate and graduate programs has been trending downward since around 2012, but the pandemic turbocharged the declines at the undergrad level,” said Elissa Nadworny in a National Public Radio broadcast on Oct. 26. Enrollment prior to the pandemic ...

New golf coach putts forth best effort

Photo courtesy PCC AthleticsMarcus Smith gives pointers to Pima Community College golfer Andrew Rivas before a putt during the 2020-2021 golf season. By ALEX JIMENEZPima Post After being appointed as Pima Community College’s golf coach early 2020, Marcus Smith became NJCAA’s youngest head coach. Although it was a big accomplishment, the only surprise for him was how soon this opportunity came.  “I’ve always known I wanted to be a coach ... I did not know I'd do it this young, though,” said Pima Community College golf coach Smith, age 21. Smith started off his head coaching career before most would even consider helping out as an assistant coach or taking coaching courses. However, he did not begin golfing as early as you may expect.  “I started golf pretty late...
