Bruno repeats as ACCAC champion

BY ANGEL CANEZ The Pima Community College Men’s and Women's track teams competed in the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference, Cross Country Championships on Sept. 26 at the Glen Lake golf course in Glendale Arizona. Katherine Bruno led the way once again coming in first place in the 5K race, for the second year in a row at the ACCAC championship. “Katie's back to back conference championship titles are impressive. She shared the lead with the runner up until the 2 mile mark and then pulled away.” Cross country coach Greg Wenneborg, said. Bruno also set the course record along with a personal best time of 18 minutes and 12 seconds. This makes Bruno 3rd top ten finish in as many races. By Rene Escobar The Hall of Fame, the pinnacle of the sports world is a testament to the legacies of athletes. Displayed in museums around the country, the stars of the past are immortalized and viewed by fans. None are bigger than the National Football League Hall of Fame. Every summer, the Hall of Fame induction ceremony draws a national audience with its annual game to kick off the preseason. It generates millions of dollars in revenue for the museum and more for the NFL. Lately some hall of famers have requested that some of that revenue be put into a hall of fame salary and an insurance for life fund. Although the members of the hall of fame are in the right for requesting something such as insurance for life, should be considered by the multi-billion-dollar company of the NFL....

Aztecs ousted in first round of playoffs

By KYLE MCDANIEL Pima’s season ended not in a fashion that they had hoped, losing in their first playoff match. This was the second consecutive year they lost in the first match. The Aztecs have some key players they will be losing due to the NJCAA rule, allowing for only two years of competition. Keeper Mackenzie Bernal and other sophomores that were key contributors were Kylee Martin, Paola Ruedaflores, Tayler Rinehart, Perla Blanco, Annalisa Verdugo and Mykayla Toth. Kylee Martin who played midfield was named first team all ACCAC/Region I after she started all 21 games. She also had five goals and one assist. Aztec’s fall out of the top five

By KYLE McDANIEL So far this season, Pima Community College has won 85 percent of its games for a record of 11-2, which currently has the team ranked No. 6 in the nation. When you average 3 goals a game and you concede under 1 goal a game, that’s a recipe for success. Oct. 2 vs. Glendale CC “Canceled” Sept. 29 at Paradise Valley CC 3, PCC 5 It took the Paradise Valley Pumas a mere 7 minutes to score on the Aztecs, but Pima wasn’t going to roll over that easy. The team put three goals past Paradise before the half. Then the Pumas made it interesting in the 68th minute by netting a second goal, but the Aztecs scored two more times in the 70th minute to put the game out of reach. Aztec’s struggle to find the back of the net

The Aztecs are 1-2-2 over their last 5 games, giving them a 5-5-3 record for the season so far. Averaging only 1.38 goals a game this season is something Pima Community College needs to fix. Oct 2. Vs Glendale CC “Cancelled” Sept. 29 at Paradise Valley CC 4, PCC 0 Paradise Valley the 19th ranked team in the nation was clinical in their finishing, scoring on half their shots. The Aztecs were able to keep pace with the Puma’s throughout the game, but weren’t able to be as proficient in front of goal as Paradise Valley was. This was the third time Pima has been shutout this season. Aztecs dig in for the long haul

By ARMANDO HARMON After a tough loss to a juggernaut of a team No. 8 South Mountain, the Aztecs looked to bounce back with a series of non-conference wins. The Aztecs took a little break from the desert heat and spent a weekend in the city founded by the Germans found in 1904. Aztecs devour their veggies

By HANK ROBICHAUD Pima Community College football team had its home opener on Sept. 29, defeating the No. 4 Scottsdale Artichokes. The Artichokes came into the game with a 4-0 record, while Pima came in 2-1. The Aztecs’ defense played great all night, however, and caused four turnovers. Sophomore Macarius Blount brought in two interceptions, while sophomore Christian Maddoux had one. Leonard Lee had the biggest of them all to change the momentum of the game for the Aztecs. “I try and put in hours of film study a week also what we did was we try to disguise our coverages a lot,” defensive back Lee said. “I ended up dropping to the deep third, saw the seam route coming, and I jumped it.” Pima’s offense couldn’t get it going early in the first half, only scoring the one touch...
