Point Shaver: NFL’s Week 13

By JOSHUA SHAVERPima Post  If you are struggling with a gambling addiction, call 1-800-522-4700. Welcome back to Point Shaver. Since the start of Point Shaver, I have a 60% or higher win percentage every week. Last week we went 80% and we are looking to keep that same success this week. Dallas Cowboys vs. New Orleans Saints (Cowboys -5.5) Cowboys coming off a two-game skid against the Chiefs and the Raiders but they were without their marquee wide receivers. The Saints are on the longest losing streak in the NFL and will be without arguably their best player Alvin Kamara and both their offensive tackles. I don’t trust Taysom Hill to do much offensively without his best two weapons, and I see the Cowboys causing a couple turnovers. The Cowboys will bounce back and win on Thurs...

Point Shaver: NFL’s Week 12

By JOSHUA SHAVERPima Post  If you are struggling with a gambling addiction, call 1-800-522-4700. Welcome back to Point Shaver. Since the start of Point Shaver, I have a 60% or higher win percentage every week.  Buffalo Bills vs. New Orleans Saints (Bills -5.5) Both the Saints and Bills are coming off big losses against .500 teams, but the Bills will bounce back and destroy the Saints. The Saints’ offense is very limited and are going against a very good Bills defense. The Bills have a more complete team and obviously a better quarterback with Josh Allen. The Bills win in a blowout and cover, 31-17. Dallas Cowboys vs. Las Vegas Raiders (Raiders +8) I am a Cowboys fan, but I am not an idiot. The Cowboys are on a short week and will be without their two starting wide rec...

Pima Men’s Soccer wins second national championship

Pima Men's Soccer pose for a team photo with their trophy at their championship celebration. Story and photo by NATE MARTINEZPima Post The 2021 Pima Community College Men’s Soccer team can now call itself national champions. The Aztecs won an overtime thriller Saturday at Wichita, Kansas, against the CCBC Essex Knights on penalty kicks by a score of 3-2. The second half was highly competitive. Despite both teams attempting multiple shots, neither was able to score, putting the match into Golden Goal time. Golden Goal time is when a 10-minute period of extra time is added at the end of a tied match. The team that scores next is the winner. If the game is still tied after 10 minutes, another period of extra time is to be played with the same rules. The match is then determi...

Pima Women’s Soccer team falls in national championship

Photo by Ray SuarezThe Pima Community College women’s soccer team poses with the National Runner-Up trophy after falling to No. 1 Heartland Community College in the NJCAA DII Women’s Soccer National Championship Nov. 20. By ALEX JIMENEZPima Post Pima Community College women’s soccer team closed off the season with an impressive run, reaching the National Final in the NJCAA DII Women’s Soccer Championship, where it took penalties to beat the Aztecs. No. 4 Pima met up with No. 1-ranked Heartland Community College in the National Final, where Heartland took an early 1-0 lead before Pima midfielder Kaitlyn Bassett responded making the score 1-1 in the first half. In the second half, Delaney Buntin intercepted a misplaced pass by the goalkeeper and scored to give the Aztecs a brief ...

Pima Women’s Soccer team advances to the semifinals

By Nate MartinezPima Post The No. 4-seeded Pima Aztecs battled through a hard-fought match against No. 5 Holmes (Mississippi) Community College, winning by a 3-2 score at the NJCAA Division II national tournament at Wichita, Kan. It is their second win in Pool D play, advancing them to 17-4 on the season and earning them a spot in the NJCAA Division II semifinals that begin Friday against No. 6 Phoenix College at 1:30 p.m. Maher then assisted Mari Acosta (Sahuarita) with another goal 33 minutes into the match. The score remained 2-0 heading into the half. Less than a minute into the second half, Ravynne Wilson scored a goal for Holmes (14-4-2) to cut the deficit to 2-1. Pima responded four minutes later when Delaney Buntin (Cienega) scored to bring the score to 3-1. At th...

Pima Men’s Soccer team advances to the semifinals

By Nate MartinezPima Post The No. 2-seeded Pima men’s soccer team won its second Pool B match in the NJCAA Division II national tournament, defeating the defending champions, No. 7-seeded Southeastern (Iowa) Community College, by a 2-0 score on Wednesday at Wichita, Kansas. The win advances the Aztecs (17-1-1) to the semifinal round Friday against an opponent to be determined. Last season, Pima was eliminated by Southeastern (13-8-2) in the semifinal round. It was a competitive first half Wednesday, ending with a scoreless tie. Pima’s offense started rolling following the break. Midfielder Ulysses Torres (Sunnyside graduate) scored inside the box seven minutes into the second half. With 20 minutes left in the match, it was midfielder Jacob Garcia (Walden Grove) who made t...

Point Shaver: NFL’s Week 11

By JOSHUA SHAVERPima Post  If you are struggling with a gambling addiction, call 1-800-522-4700. Welcome back to Point Shaver. I had missed last week because of being sick, but we are back to helping you win money on football spreads. I predict a 60% win rate every week. GreenBay Packers vs. Minnesota Vikings (Packers -2.5) Both teams are coming off a big win, but the Packers shut out the Seahawks who had Russell Wilson back. The Packers defense is becoming one of the best defenses in the league. In back-to-back games, the team held the Chiefs under 14 and held the Seahawks to a goose egg. Aaron Rodgers has had a quiet but really efficient year with 17 touchdowns and just 4 interceptions. Division games are always close, so I think the Packers win and cover in a close game, 27-24....

By ALEX JIMENEZ Pima Post Pima Community College Men’s Soccer team (15-2) has been invited as the No. 2 seed to the NJCAA DII Men’s Soccer National Championship, taking place Nov. 15 through Nov. 20. Pima lost the regional tournament to Phoenix College in penalty kicks to secure a bid to the national tournament. However, it received one of four at-large bids thanks to its strong performances this season and consistently being in the nation’s top 10. The Aztecs are in Pool B along with No. 7 Southeastern Community College in Burlington, Iowa, and No. 11 Muskegon Community College in Muskegon, Michigan. P...

Pima Women’s Soccer to play Nationals

Stephanie Van Latum/Pima AthleticsPima Community College midfielder Mari Acosta dribbles the ball down the field in September. By ALEX JIMENEZPima Post Pima Community College women’s soccer team will enter the NJCAA DII Women’s Soccer National Championship as the No. 4 seed, taking place Nov. 15 through Nov. 20, as the No. 4 seed. The Aztecs are in Pool D along with No. 5 Holmes Community College from Goodman, Mississippi, and No. 9 Southwestern Illinois College from Belleville, Illinois. Pima secured its bid to the NJCAA DII Women’s Soccer National Championship after beating Mesa Community College 2-0 in the Region I final on Oct. 15. Point Shaver: NFL’s Week 9

By JOSHUA SHAVERPima Post If you are struggling with a gambling addiction, call 1-800-522-4700. Welcome back to Point Shaver. I had missed last week because of being sick, but we are back to helping you win money on football spreads. I predict a 60% win rate every week. Atlanta Falcons vs. New Orleans Saints (Falcons +6) After Jameis Winston went down with an ACL tear, there are big questions at who will be the starting quarterback and both the Saints backups are below average. A division rival in the Falcons, who have a good offense, can make this a close game. I have the Saints winning, but the Falcons cover, 24-20. Buffalo Bills vs. Jacksonville Jaguars (Bills -14.5) Bills have a Top 5 offense and a Top 5 defense going against rookie quarterback Trevor Lawerence, who has had...
