Pima Men’s Basketball Advances in NJCAA Tournament with Win Over South Mountain

Following their perfect regular season, Pima Men’s Basketball continued their winning ways in their opener of the NJCAA Division 2 Men’s Basketball tournament. The Aztecs knocked off region opponent South Mountain Community College with a final score of 80-55 Wednesday, March 5 at the Pima West Gym. Pima Men’s Basketball Uses Dominant Presence Down Low to Cruise by South Mountain Community College 

By Joel Herrera Pima’s Wes Ball and South Mountain’s Jayven Driscoll tip off the two teams during Feb.15 afternoon matchup On Feb. 15, Pima Men’s Basketball extended their winning streak to 27, handling the South Mountain Community College Cougars with ease with an ending score of 111-54. Pima, now 27-0, remains perfect on the year with only three regular-season games remaining.  Highlights of the game included Wes Ball’s double-double and Gabe Oldham adding more dominance inside. Ball’s 17 points and 10 rebounds along with Oldham’s 14 points were accompanied by CohenJ Gonzalez, Max Majerle and Cooper Jones (11). Photo by Manuel Zepeda Pima Men’s Basketball remains undefeated as they took care of business versus Mesa Community College on Wednesday, Jan. 29 with an ending score of 111-76. Mason Hunt scored 15 points off the bench. Max Majerle added another 15. Now 23-0 (11-0 conference), the Aztecs remain with only seven regular season games in search of an undefeated regular season.  With those 111 points, this win marks the 13th game of the season where Pima reached the century mark in scoring. Pima Soccer Players Chosen as Players and Goalkeepers of the Week

Arizona Community College Athletic Conference has chosen Pima Community College women’s soccer players Jessica Alvarez and Adriana Pacheco as players and goalkeepers for the week of Sept 17-23. Alvarez, a freshman midfielder, was selected ACCAC Division II Player of the Week while Pacheco, a sophomore goalkeeper, was named ACCAC Division II Goalkeeper of the Week. Alvarez scored three goals and had one assist for the week. She netted two goals in Pima’s win over GateWay Community College and scored one goal in their win at Paradise Valley Community College. Alvarez has played in five games and has eight points. Pacheco played 104 minutes at the net giving up no goals and had four saves. The Aztecs outscored their opponents 13-2 last week. AGNELLOPima Post One Pima Community College student has proven her academic skill, compassion and determination.  Kira Okuma, 25, has not only been chosen to be a part of the All-U.S. Academic Team. She has also been named one of the seven students to be in the All-Arizona Academic Team. Through this, they have been each rewarded with a scholarship worth $25k. “After shaking off the shock, I felt gratitude for every moment of kindness,” Okuma said in a recent e-mail.
