My big fat Greek dance off in California

Most Pima Community College students spend their Valentine’s Day doing one of either two things: They can be on a lovely date with their significant other or deep into a Ben and Jerry’s tub of ice cream as they binge watch Gossip Girl for the third time. For members of the Greek Orthodox Church, however, Feb. 14 marks the start of their own holiday, the Greek Folk Dance Festival. Once a year, Greeks of all ages from around the country come together for one weekend in a different location to Greek dance. These Greeks come from Hawaii, Washington, California, Oregon, Nevada and Arizona as they compete against one another. Taking over Tucson’s very own Greek dance group from his sister, Niko Karidakis, along with his cousin, Christopher Kouris are the directors of St. Demetrios Orthodox Ch...

Brewers will brew up World Series win

By RENE ESCOBAR October is the month of pumpkin spice, ghost and ghouls, but more importantly, playoff baseball. As Major League Baseball writes its final chapters of the 2018 season, there remains one unknown: the World Series champions. That remains undetermined for the moment. With the pennant set, 10 teams have an opportunity. Alas, only one can claim the trophy. In my opinion, the one team in this year’s playoff that has never risen a Commissioner’s Trophy, the Milwaukee Brewers, will win the World Series Championship. The Brewers have the mix any championship team needs, a legitimate defense with a bullpen that can pitch the lights out. The Brewers also have the projected Most Valuable Player outfielder Christian Yelich. The bats of the Brewers are scary, starting with Yelich. H...
